The Education Committee

From: William Childs; Co-Chair Education Committee...

I’ve been involved with the GLVAD Club since its inception. Next to my passion for great design, is my love for educating the next generation of marketers and designers..

At our first meeting back in 2000, while Pat and I were working at Adams Outdoor, we discovered our mutual distaste for all things mediocre.

So, it was only natural that we ended up on the Education Committee. Our approach is very simple. We share our passion for great messaging and design to anyone who expresses an interest. We openly share the knowledge we’ve experienced ourselves in our twenty-plus year advertising/marketing/design careers. The talks mix humor, with real life experiences, and a helping of tough love.

Georgia Castellano, a Moravian College Art Major summed it up best when she wrote.

Their presentation was full of ideas and things to be inspired by. After listening to them,
I feel I have more confidence that I can be a creative designer
.”

The response we receive is very humbling.  As part of our continued outreach we’ve always include a monetary donation to the school or university at which we speak.  We donate the money to the department with no strings attached.  Pat and I are honored to be able to share our knowledge and experiences through our work on this committee.

If you would like to learn more about having a presentation at your school or business,
Please contact us and we’ll be glad to set one up.

Turning Silver into Gold
How to Profit in the Baby Boomer and Senior Marketplace
October "Lunch and Learn" Event

Turning Silver Into Gold by Dr. Mary FurlongBaby Boomers and Seniors make up over 25% of the population, own over 77% of the country's financial assets and have a greater discretionary income than any single group in America.  As the word "retirement" seems to be getting retired with this active and vital population, how can we go about reaching them with the proper message in the proper venue?  And how do we meet their interests and educate them on everything from technology and the Internet, dealing with loneliness, civic engagement and even safe sex?!

Stuart Rosenthal from The Beacon Newspapers, focused on people over 50, and Dr. Mary Furlong, author of "Turning Silver into Gold" (Available at Amazon.com) will discuss the topic of connecting with Boomers and Seniors and engaging them in ways you probably have not considered!  Did you know that this demographic buys more TOYS than all other groups combined?  Did you know that the fastest growing segment of social networking is people over 55?

Come early to network with colleagues and feel free to stay later and speak informally with Stuart and Mary after the event.
