We are all on this earth for a short time.
I was reminded of that today with the passing of Steve Jobs.
Today, I’m also mindful of his incredible legacy.
He’s not going to be around to remind us to ‘Think different’ so we’re going to have to do that for ourselves from now on.
So, here’s what I think we need to do.
Let’s not waste our limited amount of time being angry or bitter.
Let’s not always look for the negative in every situation.
Let’s break the cycle of cynicism.
Let’s share our unique inner brilliance with everyone we meet.
Take that energy we invest in fear and resentment and invest it in being kind to each other. Let’s find ways to push beyond ourselves when the going gets tough. Let’s find ways to celebrate each other’s successes.
When you think you can’t, know that you can.
When you think you shouldn’t, know that you must.
When you’re not sure, ask for somebody’s help.
Steve didn’t have a sense of entitlement, he had a sense of invention.
He never lost his childlike wonder with the world and he believed that anything is possible. He stayed true to himself and he championed others around him by telling them to ‘keep going’, that they too can ‘do it’, ‘don’t give up’, or ‘keep dreaming big’.
He reveled in curiosity, creativity and design. He was tough on the people who worked for him. He challenged his staff to never be happy with ‘good enough’.
He showed the world that no matter how big the dream, if you want it bad enough, and are willing to put your heart and soul in to it, it will come true.
All he ever wanted to do was ‘make a ding in the universe.’
What he did with his short time on earth will go far beyond that.
